No one travels high on the yellow wagon to vacation domiciles or even business negotiations anymore. But that doesn’t change the romanticism associated with this kind of movement. Since the summer of 1950, a stagecoach has been running twice a week from May to October from Bad Kissingen through the Saale Valley to Bad Bocklet and Aschach Castle. The Bad Kissingen stagecoach is the only one of its kind and the last line of the Deutsche Post – and a tourist landmark of the region.
But after 70 years, Deutsche Post AG decided that should be the end of it and in 2018 terminated the agreement to promote the historic stagecoach service. A one-time payment of 5,000 euros should be made for the last time for the operating year 2019 into the coffers of the association “Friends of the Bad Kissingen – Bad Bocklet stagecoach” flow.
The club is owned by the city (34 percent) and the district of Bad Kissingen (22 percent), the Bayerisches Staatsbad Bad Kissingen GmbH and the district of Lower Franconia (15 percent each), the market Bad Bocklet and the Bockleter Touristik und Staatsbad GmbH (7 percent each), which now have to share the costs alone. After the surprising end of the support by the Post AG, the club is now facing higher costs. In its meeting on Thursday, the cultural committee of the district of Lower Franconia therefore decided to increase its loss participation in the stagecoach retroactively from the year 2019 from 10 to 15 percent of the annual accounting result of the association “Friend of the stagecoach” to raise. For the past year, this means a loss of almost 10,000 euros for the district. However, the district councilors would like to take a leaf out of the book of those responsible at Deutsche Post AG: “Those who do not honor their past will lose their future”, or as Friedensreich Hundertwasser also put it: “He who destroys his roots cannot grow”!” In this sense, district president Erwin Dotzel will once again try to persuade the Post AG to continue sponsoring the stagecoach.
