Walter Bayer receives the Medal of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany

On behalf of the Federal President, District Administrator Rudolf Handwerker (CSU) presented the certificate and the medal to 79-year-old Walter Bayer, as informed by the Habberge District Office in Habfurt. There the honor also took place.

People who not only do their job by the book, but also do more than they have to in countless small, everyday things, enrich the lives of the citizens in the district of Hassberge. One who has been doing good deeds for many years is Walter Bayer. “They enjoy an excellent reputation in Zeil. You are a popular fellow citizen who sees where help is needed”, stated the district administrator in his laudation.

For exactly 24 years – from 1984 to 2008 – Walter Bayer was at the forefront as chairman of the VdK local association in Zeil. During this time, the number of members has grown to 573. Zeil is thus the largest local association in the VdK district association Habberge. The development of the local association shows that Walter Bayer’s work was highly appreciated, said Handwerker. From Zeil he also looked after other members from the surrounding towns and communities. “You are a tireless campaigner for socially weak and needy people”, praised the district administrator the commitment of the Zeiler.

Honorary chairman since 2008

2008 Walter Bayer was appointed honorary chairman of the VdK local association Zeil. Still today he supports the executive committee and stands for the members with advice and act to the side. As an advisor to the mayor, Walter Bayer has provided excellent services in construction projects, in urban development or in the realization of ideas for the benefit of the socially disadvantaged and has always drawn attention to their concerns and needs.

Under the leadership of Walter Bayer, a lively club life has developed in the VdK: The annual program includes: Trips for seniors and the disabled, Christmas and Mother’s Day celebrations, visits to the sick, monthly meetings. The founding of a rehab sports osteoporosis group also goes back to his initiative.

Multiple awards for social commitment

Walter Bayer has already been honored several times for his dedicated work on behalf of the socially disadvantaged – among others, with the pin of merit of the International World Association for Aid and Understanding in Peace and Freedom, with the Peter Rupert Mayer Medal and the Karl Weishaupl Medal of the VdK Regional Association of Bavaria as well as with the golden pin of honor of the VdK Germany.

Walter Bayer has taken on other tasks as an honorary judge at the Bavarian State Social Court and at the Wurzburg Social Court. He was active from 1996 to 2005 honorary as an advisory member of the social welfare committee of the district Habberge.
